While going to an animal shelter and bringing home a new pet is rewarding, many animal lovers go home wishing they could save them all. It’s hard to think about how many pets and wild animals are left orphaned or without enough food or shelter to survive, and although many of us wish we could take them in, it’s simple not feasible for most of us to bring home any animal at any time, no matter how much we’d like to.
A woman named Adri Rachelle does just that, though, living out her dream of rescuing any animal who comes to her in need. Adri is the founder of Wild Things Sanctuary in Georgia, which has saved nearly 200 animals of all shapes and sizes. Adri has sacrificed her comfortable way of living to instead dedicate her life to the animals she rescues, whether they’re dogs, cats, birds, cows, ferrets, pigs… basically, you name it, she’ll take it in.
The work is hard, and in an interview with Bored Panda, Adri says that she doesn’t take vacations and cares for the animals morning, afternoon, and night, seven days a week. It’s also expensive — she spends about $1,300 a month on food, plus about $10,000 on vet bills every year. This is in addition to the $50,000 or so that was needed to set up the sanctuary in the first place.
Thankfully, the challenges of such an endeavor have been worth it — Adri loves what she does, and it’s clear that the animals love her, too! Check out some of the photos of the residents of Wild Things Sanctuary, and make sure you donate to help Adri and her animal friends here.
