Succulents are known for being low-maintenance plants, but one woman discovered that her durable little plant was particularly low-maintenance.
A woman in an Australian-based indoor plant group shared the hilarious story of the succulent that she’s been lovingly caring for over the past two years.
“I’ve had this beautiful succulent for about two years now. I was so proud of this plant. It was full, beautiful coloring, just an overall perfect plant. I had a watering plan for it, if someone else tried to water my succulent I would get so defensive because I just wanted to keep good care of it. I absolutely loved my succulent,” she said.
The woman continued to take care of the plant, cleaning its leaves regularly, until it came time to change its container. As she tried to extract the plant from its original pot, the made an alarming discovery.
The plant wasn’t potted in dirt, but styrofoam. The plant itself was made of plastic. Yep, she’d been spending a lot of time and effort tending to a fake plant.
Luckily, the woman learned she was anything but alone in making her mistake. Other group members were eager to share their stories about how they or a loved one had continuously watered a plant before learning that it was actually fake.
To be fair to the woman, the plant does look real, and many of the plant lovers in the group agreed as well. Have you ever watered a plant believing it was real? Let us know!
