Face masks have been a prevalent component of the coronavirus pandemic, and many people have been wearing them out in public to reduce the chances of spreading harmful germs to others in their vicinity. Now, one artist is adding a fun and slightly creepy spin to the facemask “trend,” and we want them for ourselves!
Icelandic artist and student Ýrúrarí has always been a passionate knitter, and she’s dove into her hobby during the pandemic by creating crazy, silly, and bizarre face masks to help her mental health during this time. Take a look at her wild creations below, and you’ll see why so many people have been loving what she does:
The artist has acknowledged openly that her masks aren’t designed for the purpose of safety — they’re just fun!
Most of them are mouth-themed, with exaggerated features that make people do a double-take.
Some cover most of her face, while others just cover the mouth.
(And then, of course, there are some that go way past the mouth.)
As the days pass, her creations get weirder and weirder.
The crazier they get, though, the more we love them!
Have you ever heard of ‘tongueception’?
She even made a matching headband for one of her masks.
These fun masks may not prevent the spread of COVID-19, but they provide some much-needed levity in a difficult time.
