Don’t call them “bird brains” — penguins are some of the most social birds on Earth, and they know how to have fun.

When COVID-19 hit, many penguins living at zoos received a bit of a shock — the enrichment they got from watching and entertaining guests was suddenly taken away, and zoo staff had to get creative to figure out how to stimulate their penguins’ brains. Many workers have opted to take the penguins on tours around the zoos and aquariums, letting them “meet” other residents they would’ve never had the chance to interact with otherwise.

The Newquay Zoo in England had a different approach, though. Little Surprises sent the zoo an automatic bubble machine (which had been listed on the zoo’s Amazon Wishlist), and as you might expect, the penguins are loving it. The flightless birds have been having a blast watching the bubbles and chasing after them, and it seems like this donation was a good one for these adorable zoo residents!
