The stakes for cakes are constantly rising, and bakers around the world are pushing themselves constantly to create cakes that defy the laws of physics, chemistry, and logic. Even in a world where hyperrealistic cakes are becoming more and more common, though, one baker’s cake is standing out for all the right reasons.
Grace, a Canadian baker who can be found on Instagram as @petrichoro, has made waves with her cake that looks just like a 3-D koi pond. Somehow, every last part of the cake is edible, but it’s almost a shame to eat it because of how beautiful it is!

Grace described the cake like this:
“A koi pond mousse cake for father’s day! I’ve had this project on my to-do list for the longest time but i’ve always been too intimidated to start.. but i decided to take the plunge this week and i’m very glad i did 🙂 I love making small and intricate things, and i had so so much fun working on the lilies and koi.”

“Everything on the cake is edible! (the cattail stems are little pieces of dry bamboo, and bamboo is *technically* edible, right? 😅) it was my first time working with bean paste and agar based jello so there was a lot of trial and error,, i was up til 5am but id say it was worth it.”

The cake isn’t just pretty to look at, either. Grace made sure that it was made with layers and layers of deliciousness:
Agar almond jelly
Blueberry mousse
White chocolate mousse
Black sesame chiffon cake
The cute little fish were made with sweet bean paste mochi.
