When you need to report a missing person, you contact the police. Well, what happens if you’re a lost dog and need to find a way back home, but don’t have the means or knowledge to use a telephone?
If you’re one dog in Texas, the answer is clear: walk right into the police station and file the “missing pup” report yourself.
The Odessa Police Department got quite the adorable surprise when a dog (later found to be named “Chico”) walked right in and put his paws up on the front desk. A Facebook post from the “Support Our Permian Basin Police Officers” page shared the story of the encounter:
“So…. this happy guy randomly strolled into the front desk of the Police Department last night. We’re thinking he wanted to apply for a K-9 position after eliminating a Lassie type situation. He was given lots of love and attention until he decided it was time for him to leave. He let himself out and after an exhausting search was not found. We were relieved to learn he safely returned to his owner. Chico is welcome back anytime ☺️.”
Thankfully, as the post said, Chico was later found and is at home safe. We should’ve known that a polite, smart gentleman such as himself would find his way back to his loved ones!
We bet the police officers were delighted to receive such an unexpected and furry visitor!
