When Lainey was first rescued, she barely looked like a dog. This poor girl was found on Christmas Eve by a kind-hearted person who couldn’t keep her, and she was suffering from demodectic mange and secondary skin infections. Her skin was raw and swollen, and you couldn’t even see her eyes. Now, though, the love and care she’s received from her foster home and the vet have helped transform her into a beautiful, healthy pup who has found her forever home!
Lainey’s foster mom, Lauren Buckley, shared the dog’s story on Facebook along with incredible photos that show her transformation:
“Today’s the day! After spending the last four months together, Lainey heads to her forever home. On Christmas Eve, we brought home an alien-looking creature who we feared would succumb to her infections before we could get her to the vet. She stunk, she couldn’t see, and she bled all over our couch. But we would do it all again, because today we get to send off a beautiful, spunky, sweet, healthy dog who has nothing but wonderful things in store for her.
Thank you to everyone who had a part in her rescue. The donors, supporters, and well wishers, our incredible rescue, Brown Dog Coalition, that never hesitated to get her whatever she needed, and lastly, her new mom, Kelly, for loving her as much as we do already. We are so grateful. Happy life little girl. We can’t wait to see what you have in store!
Edited to update 4/25: the attention this post has gotten has left us speechless. Thank you all for the kind words and support! To answer and address a few things:
1. Lainey was diagnosed with demodectic mange and secondary skin infections. Our vet prescribed her antibiotics and ivermectin to combat the infections and mites.
2. We are not vets nor are we fit to offer medical advice. If your dog is having any sort of health issue please take them to your vet.
3. Lainey has an incredible home with a good friend of ours. As much as we love her and would have happily kept her, that is not the point of fostering. We love every one like our own, and seeing them get families of their own is an incredible feeling—especially with cases like Lainey’s.
4. We appreciate all of the love and friend requests. If you’d like to see past photos or follow along with future fosters, please feel free to follow us on Instagram: @laubuckley or @brooks_andco
Edited to update 4/26: I would love to answer all of you but it’s been impossible to keep up (not to mention my notifications will not load!). You are welcome to message me here or on Instagram and I will do my best to get back to you. Also, you can go to Brown Dog Coalition’s page (linked above) for a pupdate on Lainey. And, if you feel so inclined, please consider donating to them so they can continue to rescue dogs like Lainey.“
Check out all of Lainey’s incredible progress photos below, and make sure to SHARE this story with your friends so they can see the impact of fostering animals just like this sweet girl!
When Lainey was first rescued, she barely even looked like a dog due to her severe skin problems.
Soon, though, she began to make small improvements.
Her skin wasn’t perfect yet, but she was perking up and starting to show some of who she really was.
She also got to wear some cute clothes to protect her healing skin from the cold!
Eventually, Lainey’s colors began showing through. Her fur was starting to grow back!
The changes were subtle and slow, but day by day, Lainey was getting healthier.
Lainey has now found her forever home, and looking at her now, you’d never guess what she’d been through.
We’re so happy this lucky girl found the future she deserves!
