COVID-19 has taken a toll on senior centers, not only due to the virus itself, but also because of the social restrictions that have been placed on residents. Staff at these centers have had to get creative to ensure that the people there are still having fun and living their lives to the fullest, and one center came up with a brilliant idea to give their residents the enrichment they need.
Creekwood Place Nursing & Rehabilitation in Russellville, Kentucky teamed up with their local Tractor Supply to take the residents on a “fishing trip” right in their own backyard!
Tractor Supply loaned out a tank, which was filled with water and a few fish. Then, the residents were armed with fishing poles, and the fun began!
The staff helped release the fish from the lines so they could return to the water safe and sound.
This provided a rare opportunity for these seniors to enjoy a unique activity that they may have enjoyed when they were younger… or perhaps this was their first time! The staff worked hard to make it a fun day for everyone involved.
Plus, this was a great opportunity for the seniors to get outside and enjoy the fresh air.
Thanks to some creativity and kindness, these happy residents were able to have a special day that they (and their families looking at the photos) will treasure forever.
