The Royal Thai Navy went above and beyond when a sinking ship was found to have more than just humans on board.
Earlier this month, a fishing boat near Thailand caught fire, letting in water and causing the ship to sink. Thankfully, after an emergency alert was put out, another boat arrived to save the eight men who were on board the damaged ship.
All appeared well, but later on, the Royal Thai Navy was sent out to investigate the sinking boat. There, they discovered that not everyone on board had been rescued.
There were still four cats huddled together, damp, and terrified on the ship.
Now, rescuing cats in the middle of the ocean is a tall order, especially when you’re not expecting to have to bring four kitties back to shore, but that didn’t discourage the Royal Thai Navy. One of the sailors, Tattaphon Sai, got right into the water and coaxed the cats to him so he could swim them to safety.
One by one, he took the cats back to the Navy ship on his back. Though the cats were surely frightened, they likely realized they had no other choice: either trust the strange human, or be left to the mercy of an endless ocean.
Thankfully, the sailor’s efforts were not in vain. All four cats were rescued from the sinking ship and received proper care once they were on board the Navy ship.
We’re so glad that this harrowing sea story has a happy ending. These cats definitely have nine lives!
