When rescuers from the British Horse Society came upon Heidi for the first time, they thought she was dead. The pony was found in East Durham, England severely neglected and lying in the mud. The volunteer thought the horse was just a corpse lying amidst the garbage and mud, but then, he noticed her breathing.
Here 4 Horses shared this pony’s incredible story:
It took five people to get Heidi back on her feet, and the starving pony would have to fight for her life. But the people at BHS weren’t going to let her give up.
The pony received a number of blood transfusions and emergency care to save her life. She was emaciated and covered in open wounds.
Slowly, though, her wounds began to heal, and she grew healthier by the day.
She still had a long way to go, but the twinkle was back in her eye, and you could tell that this pony had a fighting spirit within her.
After a lot of hard work by some dedicated volunteers, Heidi’s true beauty began to show through…
… and now, she’s unrecognizable.
Yes, believe it or not, that’s the same horse that was thought to be dead in the mud.
No longer living a life of abuse and neglect, Heidi is a happy, healthy show pony.
It just goes to show what love and care can do to not only save a life, but change it entirely.
We’re so happy for Heidi!
