All the bad news in the world is thankfully being combated by people doing good things. Now, supermarket chain Publix is doing their part to help as many people as possible during the coronavirus outbreak.
You see, one of the disturbing results of the pandemic is that farmers are having to throw away fresh milk and produce as restaurants, schools, and other eating establishments have closed. And yet, countless people rely on food banks to survive, and that number is increasing as people lose their jobs due to the outbreak. It’s a cruel irony, but Publix has decided to do something about it.
In a press release, the company announced that they would be donating an incredible amount of produce and milk to Feeding America, which provides food to people in need. “Publix will donate these products directly to Feeding America member food banks in its operating area. The initiative will support Florida produce farmers, southeastern dairy farmers and the growing number of families looking to Feeding America for fresh fruits, vegetables and milk during the coronavirus pandemic. Kicking off today, the initiative is expected to run for several weeks,” said the press release. A header on the release says that the company hopes to donate 150,000 pounds of produce and 43,500 gallons of milk during the first week of the campaign.
This solution is generous and genius. The initiative will support both people in need of fresh food and the farmers who need to get paid in order to support their own families.
We love what this grocery store is doing in this time of great need, and if you do too, make sure you SHARE this post with your friends!
