If you’ve even looked at the internet in the past few months, you’ve probably been made aware of Netflix’s unbelievable limited docuseries “Tiger King.” The story of multiple polyamorous zookeepers with questionable ethics has captivated people’s attention around the world, and now, a scripted series surrounding the people involved is in the works.
Now, there’s news that Nicolas Cage himself is going to be playing “Joe Exotic,” the central figure in the docuseries. Cage will also serve as an executive producer for the series, which will be produced by Imagine Television Studios and CBS Television Studios. This will be the first big TV role of Cage’s career, though he’s starred in numerous movies that have been both celebrated and panned by critics. Although the Tiger King docuseries aired on Netflix, there are no guarantees that the scripted series will be featured on the streaming service.
Funnily enough, this isn’t even the only scripted Tiger King series that’s currently planned for release. SNL’s Kate McKinnon is set to produce the series and star as Carole Baskin.
