Hurricane Eta and Tropical Storm Gamma have devastated Tabasco, Mexico with some of the worst flooding the area has seen in fifty years. The damage has left dozens of people dead and hundreds missing, and countless lives have been changed forever.
Since the storms passed, the Mexican Marine Secretariat (SEMAR) has been searching for anyone who needs help, and they did find one lucky dog clinging to a house for dear life.
The sweet labrador pup was half-submerged in the flood waters, exhausted and terrified when the Marines pulled up. One of the Marines patted the dog, reassuring him that they were friends and here to help. Thankfully, it didn’t take much convincing — the dog used some of its scarce remaining strength to switch over from the window to the boat, and the Marine pulled him up to safety.
This dog’s story doesn’t end here, though.
After he was transported to dry land, the dog was taken to be examined for medical maladies, and the Marines searched for any owner who might come to claim him. When no one did, they decided to adopt him into their official naval family. In fact, they have hope that with some time and training, this lucky pup might become a rescue dog himself!
What started out as a terrifying situation for a helpless dog has now turned into a happy ending for both the four-legged friend and the Marines who rescued him. He doesn’t have a name yet, but we imagine they’ll pick out a perfect one for him!
