Most of us don’t get to live like kings and queens in our old age, but then, most of us aren’t Arthur: a 17-year-old Maine Coon whose family gave him a throne worthy of a cat of his stature.
Arthur’s mom, Elly, shared a photo on Reddit of the spectacular cat proudly perched upon his very own “Iron Throne” made of cardboard. From there, Justsomething reached out to her to ask more information about how the crafty piece of feline furniture came to be. As it turned out, Elly is quite the craftsperson.

Elly started out with the basics: a strategically cut cardboard box and some cut-up complete and partial “swords.” She told Justsomething that she had “no idea what [she] was doing.”

Elly then applied the swords to the back of the box. King Arthur remained ever-vigilant as his royal seat was constructed.

Of course, that wasn’t enough for a proper throne. So Elly added more swords to the front, transforming this seat from a casual cardboard chair to a creation straight out of a budget Game of Thrones set.

From there, it was all about the finishing touches. Elly spray-painted the throne black, then gave it a little sheen by dry brushing it with silver paint. Finally, she sewed a cushion into the seat so that King Arthur could rest comfortably while addressing his subjects.

What did Arthur think about ruling the Seven Kingdoms? Well, needless to say, he felt right at home atop his royal throne.
It just goes to show that cats are fond of boxes no matter what shape they’re in! What a loving cat parent Elly is to make her senior king truly feel like the ruler of his castle.
